  • Hello to all of the students and Parents !

I already miss you all to the moon and back! I do have a HUGE surprise .One of our favorite authors has invited us to have lunch with him daily. SHHHH .. DON'T tell Pigeon because he wasn't invited.  You guessed it. Yes ! Mo Willems. Every day at 1:00 PM  go to Kid Tube and search for Lunch with Mo Willems. He will even show you his studio. For the older students this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the publishing process. Maybe you will surprise  me and write your own Piggie and Gerald book. I'm sure if I mailed your work to Mo he would be so proud .Please check E Chalk daily so I can share more fun activities  and reading resources with you.

                                                                                                                         KEEP READING!!!!!!!!!

We are just not together in the Library Yet!
Hi P.S.255 family. I miss you  all iso much . On Monday we will continue to share our love of reading in a new way. The lower grades will continue our “Julia Donaldson” author study. The upper grades will begin a new memoir unit . I’m hoping that the final project will be your own memoir living through this time in history . We have a lot of work to do before we actually start our own writing . Perhaps start to keep a journal and jot down your thoughts and feelings . Encourage your family to do the same Until Monday ... My long term goal is to create a PS 255 time capsule .Keep reading!! Thinking of you all and remember we are just not back  together at PS255 YET!!! Love,Ms.Kaplan

FOR THE LOVE OF READING

You're watching author Mo Willems make slop! In I Really Like Slop!, Piggie invites Gerald to try her favorite food . . . slop. But Gerald is not so sure he's going to like it. At all. (more) Gerald is careful. Piggie is not. Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can. Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to.

Brooklyn Public Library News

Hi all,

I hope you all are well and safe! As you probably know, Brooklyn Public Library is closed to protect our staff and public from COVID-19. But that doesn't mean we aren't hard at work! Here are some virtual programs for young children and some online resources for families! Please share with your networks. And if you have resources we can share, let me know! We are desperately looking for more resources in other languages.

Virtual Storytime
Our wonderful children's librarians are offering Virtual Storytime 2-3 times per day, Monday through Saturday at 11:00 and 2:00 and on Sundays at 11:00 on LIVE on our Brooklyn Public Library Facebook page. Some staff are offering Bedtime Stories in their PJ's at 7:00 when we schedule it. Follow us on Facebook or visit https://www.bklynlibrary.org/calendar/list/Virtual%20Programming for this and other virtual programs.

Read, Play, Grow at Home
In our latest BKLYN Kids Blog post, Jessica Ralli offers tips for helping keep families on schedule, screen time do's and don't's, and our favorite resources for at home learning!

Virtual New and Expecting Parent Support Group
Facilitated by Jennette Selig, PD (DTI), CLEC, CCCE. Jennette is a neighborhood mom in North Brooklyn, childbirth educator, and lactation educator/counselor. We will be using Zoom to host this program, space is limited, and you will need either a computer with audio and webcam or a telephone in order to participate. We will be sending the log in information to participants Thursday, so keep an eye out for the email! Please register here.

Online Resources
  • Don't worry if you don't have that many books at home at the moment. The library is here to help! Use your library card to access Bookflix--streaming video storybooks paired with related non-fiction and fiction titles. And Tumbleooks has online stories, too!
  • You can get a BPL e-card if you don’t currently have a library card to use our online resources and check out ebooks. Anyone who lives, works, or studies in New York State can get a library card.
  • Search our catalog for ebooks and audio books. Audio books are great for kids and develop vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening skills.
  • Use Beanstack to get regular book recommendations based on children's interests or fill out a BookMatch form to get librarian-curated book lists. Our staff are focusing on ebooks at this time!

Do-it-Yourself Storytimes

Our children's librarians are curating wonderful song and rhyme video playlists, paired with ebooks, and other recommendations!
