P.S. 255 is a multi-cultural school with a diverse population. It is situated in the heart of Gravesend, Brooklyn and is part of District 22. Over 37 languages are spoken by our students. We pride ourselves on our ability to teach all students regardless of whether they are new immigrants, gifted and talented, or have special learning needs. Everyone is made to feel at home at P.S. 255 and are respected and valued for their similarities as well as their differences.

We work hard everyday to maintain the status that we are highly regarded and recognized for. We consider ourselves to be a school for teaching and learning and we open our doors to other schools, institutions, and businesses to share our best practices that can be replicated.

At P.S. 255, we employ an excellent staff of teachers, paraprofessionals, etc. who are dedicated to our children’s educational success and who are highly qualified in their areas. For example, a licensed media specialist, a computer specialist, an artist and a musician are cluster teachers who work with the students throughout the week, in addition, to licensed teachers.

Special education services include full-time collaborative team teaching on every grade (K – 5); self-contained, special education classes (12:1:1); SETSS services, related services and support services. Children receive instruction in the least restrictive environment. Related services include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language therapy, counseling, hearing and nursing.

P.S. 255 is truly a microcosm of the city of New York. Our motto is “Every Child is a Star! Come watch us shine.” We invite you to come and visit us!
