  • State Review

    P.S. 255 Has Been Selected  to Participate in
    a State Review for Special Education
    February 2, 2016
    Dear Parents/Guardians:
    The New York State Education Department: Office of Special Education has initiated a Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in P.S. 255 during the 2015-2016 school year.  The purpose of this review is to assess the district’s compliance with selected Federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.

    The review will be conducted by the SEQA for the New York City Regional Office.  The review process will involve a review of school records of a representative sample of students with disabilities, classroom visitations and surveys.  In addition, meetings of the committee on special education will be observed.  Further information may be obtained by contacting the SEQA for the New York City Regional Office at 718-722-4544 and/or by contacting P.S. 255 at 718-376-8494 ext. 1.

    TAKE THE 2015 - 2016 NYC SCHOOL SURVEY!
    EVERY YEAR, ALL PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 TAKE THE NYC SCHOOL SURVEY. THE SURVEY RANKS AMONG THE LARGEST SURVEYS OF ANY KIND EVER CONDUCTED NATIONALLY.
    THE SURVEY HELPS SCHOOL LEADERS UNDERSTAND WHAT KEY MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY SAY ABOUT THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT EACH SCHOOL. THE INFORMATION CAPTURED BY THE SURVEY IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT A DIALOGUE AMONG ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW TO MAKE THE SCHOOL A BETTER PLACE TO LEARN.

English Language Arts

We provide all students at P.S. 255 with literacy instruction that incorporates fiction and nonfiction texts to best support our students in meeting the Common Core Learning Standards. Students are exposed to units that are challenging and thought provoking. Students also receive small group instruction in literacy throughout the week as well.
