    P.S. 255 Has Been Selected  to Participate in
    a State Review for Special Education
    February 2, 2016
    Dear Parents/Guardians:
    The New York State Education Department: Office of Special Education has initiated a Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Special Education Programs and Services Focused Review in P.S. 255 during the 2015-2016 school year.  The purpose of this review is to assess the district’s compliance with selected Federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities.

    The review will be conducted by the SEQA for the New York City Regional Office.  The review process will involve a review of school records of a representative sample of students with disabilities, classroom visitations and surveys.  In addition, meetings of the committee on special education will be observed.  Further information may be obtained by contacting the SEQA for the New York City Regional Office at 718-722-4544 and/or by contacting P.S. 255 at 718-376-8494 ext. 1.

    TAKE THE 2015 - 2016 NYC SCHOOL SURVEY!
    EVERY YEAR, ALL PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 TAKE THE NYC SCHOOL SURVEY. THE SURVEY RANKS AMONG THE LARGEST SURVEYS OF ANY KIND EVER CONDUCTED NATIONALLY.
    THE SURVEY HELPS SCHOOL LEADERS UNDERSTAND WHAT KEY MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY SAY ABOUT THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT EACH SCHOOL. THE INFORMATION CAPTURED BY THE SURVEY IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT A DIALOGUE AMONG ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW TO MAKE THE SCHOOL A BETTER PLACE TO LEARN.

Educational Websites

We have compiled a list of websites that we feel are both fun and educational for students to use to complement their learning at P.S. 255. Most of the websites listed here are free to use, some may require a fee to access certain parts of the website.

As always, children should be carefully watched whenever accessing any part of the internet. Parents, please determine which, if any, of these websites are best for your children. Children should never be left to use the internet unsupervised.

Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

World Book Online for Early Childhood
An excellent resource for both research and fun educational activities. After logging in, be sure to click on the "KIDS" icon to access content appropriate for our early childhood learners.

STARFALL
The Starfall website has some excellent reading resources for emerging readers.

ABC YA!
ABC-Ya is a great website for fun, yet educational and common core based learning activities for students to practice some concepts they are learning in math and language arts.

RAZ Kids
RAZ Kids is a great website for emerging readers to use to practice their reading skills. RAZ Kids is a not a free website, you must sign-up and pay a premium to use it.

PBS Kids
PBS Kids is a great resource for children to complete reading activities with characters from the different PBS children's series broadcast on PBS television stations.

Reading is Fundamental
RIF is the nation's largest, non-profit childrens literacy organization.



3rd Grade through 5th Grade

Dance Mat Typing via Will Roger's TeacherSpace
This is an excellent resource for young students to develop and practice typing skills!

Storyline Online
Storyline provides access to many creatively written books that are read by different actors, some from Hollywood!
The videos are accessible through the YouTube website.

Scholastic
Scholastic has been delivering literacy resources for kids and outstanding children's books to schools, teachers, and families for more than 90 years.

World Book Online for Childhood Elementary Age
An excellent resource for both research and fun educational activities. Be sure to click on the "STUDENT" icon for age appropriate content, but don't be afraid to explore the entire website!
